Which is Greener?

In celebration of Earth Day today, I was wondering how I could go a little greener in my daily routine.
So I thought… what is the greenest way to keep my legs and underarms silky smooth and “down there” nicely tamed? (yes… I happened to be shaving my legs at the time… and yes I am proud that I didn’t cut myself while concentrating on something other than the razorI have a habit of knicking my skin even with the stupid “shields” they have on the razors)

I figured there were really 3 choices in contention with each other- shaving, waxing and electrolysis. The Nair solution never even made it in due to all of the chemicals involved.

Personally, I am a shaver (of most parts… I will spare you all of the intimate details). But as I was noticing that yet another razor head was getting dull, I thought to myself this can not be the greenest way to remove those pesky hairs. Since I refuse to become all hairy (unless it’s the dead of winter and no one will see my legs… then I may go 4 or 5 days without touching them… yeah my husband doesn’t like it, oh well), I thought there has to be some other way. Shaving not only fills the landfills but also uses a lot of water. Not very green.

Then there’s waxing – now this is something that I haven’t really done much of. I’ve tried it here and there but that’s about it. It seems to me though that unless you are using strips of reusable cotton, it’s quite the landfill filler as well. Not to mention is the wax they’re using a natural product? I have seen some over the counter do-it-yourself waxing kits that come with some sort of sugar solution… in fact I’ve tried them, but it just seemed to be more of a sticky mess than anything else.

Lastly we have electrolysis… now this uses quite a bit of energy to get the job done, but if you’re lucky you only have to go once or twice and then you never have to worry about not being silky smooth ever again. At least so I’ve heard…

I didn’t consider the cost as a factor to any of these three options, because I figure in the end it probably comes out pretty even (heck waxing – if always done at the salon may actually be the most expensive option).

Anyway, that was just something I was thinking about yesterday. I mentioned it to my husband last night and he thought electrolysis would be the greenest in the long run… hmmm – wonder if I could get that as a gift at some point… wouldn’t it be nice to never have to worry about underarm stubble or hairy legs again? Oh a girl can dream!!

What do you think? Did I miss something?
