Clearing away the cobwebs

Wow!!! Okay… before I go two weeks without writing anything on here I thought I would jump on really quick and see if anyone is still out there… (desperately looks around… starting to sweat a little… OH! There you are!!)

Thank you all for sticking with me during my little impromptu hiatus… it has been a busy two weeks, even if my blog has nothing to show for it… believe me there will be lots of pictures to prove it… it was a fun two weeks! Ray had the past week off and we braved the roads with our two children! We drove… wait for it… over 600 miles (one way) to vacation in the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee.

It took us about 10 hours to drive down there… all night… yes we are insane!

Michaela and Kids in Cades Cove, TN

My goodness it was beautiful down there though! The weather didn’t really want to cooperate until the last day, so we had to change our plans… we ended up doing much more indoors than originally planned, but we still had a lot of fun. I also celebrated my *cough* 33rd *cough* birthday in Tennessee last Sunday. Ray and the kids had gotten me the new Kindle and gave it to me the the day before our trip, so that I would have it to use while we were on the road. I LOVE it!! It goes everywhere with me!! I’ve actually been able to read more now because of it… no more searching for the page I was on because Noah decided to play with my book mark! What’s even better is that it also lets me store my pdf files on there too, so I have have all of my knitting and crocheting patterns stored on there now… no more having to always be by my laptop when I want to work on a project! But enough about that…

As for updates on the kids…Abby is loving her solids… she lets you know if you are late in feeding her, because she gets super crabby!! She also learned how to sit herself up and loves to do that now!! Noah is becoming a little parrot and has started repeating what he hears… not good! He also will not stop talking! I swear there was a stretch of 3 hours during the drive home where he wasn’t silent for longer than 10 seconds!! He also loves to repeat himself if he thinks that we are not listening to him and will say the same thing over and over and over again! Vacation really screwed his nap and bedtime schedules up, so it will be a fight to try and get him back to a good routine… and even though we were only gone for a few days, he also got used to us going to sleep at the same time and in the same bed as him… so that needs to be fixed as well. I’m not concerned about either problem though… I’ve given up stressing over Noah’s bedtime habits. I know that he will wake up sometime in the middle of the night and come into our bed. And you know… I’m fine with that, because I know that he won’t always want to snuggle with me like that.

October has arrived in northern Illinois and the sweaters and fall decorations are coming out! I love this time of year!

So enough for now… I have a few borrowed books and a Kindle that are screaming my name. Thanks for sticking with me and I’ll be back soon!

  1. Am so glad to see you back friend – have been checking in on the blog waiting for an update. 1st – Happy Birthday. 2nd – Sounds like a great vacation – awesome pic of you and the kids. 3rd – Am right there with you on feeding schedule and crabby babies if they don’t get fed on time. 4th – Hate to break it to you, but now that he’s entered the talk, talk, talk stage – it’s not ending anytime soon!!!

  2. Welcome back! Mikey and I had our honeymoon in the Great Smokey Mountains – it is absolutely beautiful. We are considering going there for our family vacation (if we ever find the time to take one).

  3. Wow, you were in my neck of the woods!

Sort of. Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg/Smoky Mtns is about 2 hours away from where I live. It really is a beautiful place, especially in the fall!

I recently got a Kindle, too… and also love it! Now Shane wants one… as do my mom, mother-in-law, and brother. Guess what they’re all getting for Christmas, LOL! 😉

  4. Hey stranger!! Don’t feel bad about the hiatus! Your two weeks can’t compare to my **almost* 3 months, I think it was. Ack!

What an awesome pic of you, Noah, and Abby! I see that Ray still has that great sense for photography! 🙂 And you are brave for traevling that far! Geesh!

I love hearing that Noah is a little parrot now. So is Callie. And it’s not good either. Jeff and I look at each other with these weird, contorted faces when we hear her say, “Aw man! Damnit!”

    Oops!

It’s finally starting to feel like fall down here too…but I’m sure nothing compared to what you’re feeling. 🙂

    Can’t wait to read more!!

  5. I love this time of year too. I’m not in the midwest anymore so we’re not in sweaters, but I am wearing lightweight l/s tops. I am missing the colors you’re experiencing up there too!
