Crash and burn

So I have started and deleted this post a few times… okay twice… but anyway. My laptop crashed  this past Friday. It hadn’t shown me the finger… ehhem… the blue screen in over 6 months, so it was destined to happen again sometime soon. The problem this weekend was though that unlike the past 2 times, I was not able to get everything back up and running with out a loss. *sigh* The first time I wrote this post I whined on and on and on about how I lost all of my email and my coveted OneNote folder with all of my recipes, patterns and inspirations that I had gathered online prior to finding Pinterest… the two files that I wanted to keep above all things I lost, because I didn’t double check to make sure that they were being saved off of the laptop and onto the external network drive… lesson learned. Luckily though, I didn’t lose much else, because I really don’t save much of anything on here… just temporary things… thankfully. It has been a pain in the booty though getting everything back on here. Usually when I do a reset and wipe it, I make sure to write down a list of programs I have installed prior to wiping it, so that I can easily go back and re-install them.Unfortunately because this crash was unexpected, I wasn’t able to do that and I now have to trust my not so trustworthy memory (why is it that I can remember trivial information, but the things I wish had in my head is gone… lost in the dusty cobwebs of my sleep deprived brain). It’s a slow process this time around, but I’m sure I’ll get to everything eventually.

I guess i deleted the prior post, because I’ve come to the realization that it’s my own darn fault that I lost those files. Sure it aggravates me, but it was just stuff… digital clutter that if I’m honest with myself I really only “needed” and used 10 or 20% of.  Maybe it was a sign that in my efforts to declutter my home, I “hoarded” digitally and that needed to stop. Old habits die hard and it’s so easy to say “I don’t need that now, but I may one day so I’ll save it!”… I’m trying to do better!

Sooooo that’s what I’ve been up to the past few days… well that and my little sis had her engagement party Saturday (she was so cute and the kids had a blast playing with their cousins), then on Sunday Ray and I took the kids on a 1 6 mile bike ride (okay, Ray pulled them and I peddled behind them… while I may not have been dragging the extra 70 lbs, I still was exhausted when we got home!). Yesterday was spent tackling Mt Laundry… I’m happy to say that with the exception of Noah’s bedding and some rugs, Mt Laundry has been leveled to the ground. Yay!! It’s the little things in life that make me happy! 😉

So there you have it… nothing grand and earth shattering… just my little bucket of disappointment this weekend. And what did I (and hopefully you) learn from it… schedule regular backups!!!
