Rainy Day Fun – Wonder Goop

We have been getting our fair share of rain over the past week… having one day of rain after the next leaves us with a toddler who is going bonkers and a mama who’s about to start pulling her  hair out!

I didn’t have to resort to that though, since I have a great book with ideas for kids around Noah’s age. The book is called The Toddlers Busy Book: 365 Creative Games and Activities to Keep Your 1 1/2- to 3-Year-Old Busy and there are so many different activities and crafts in there! Sooo… I figured why not pull it out and  see what sort of rainy day activities are in there… and then I found it. There was the recipe for what I like to call Wonder Goop… otherwise known as “Flubber”.

It is so easy to make and it’s really fun to play with… it’s neither liquid nor solid, and yet it’s both of those at the same time.

If you want to make your own wonder goop. here’s how:

1) Grab a box of corn starch (I bought the mega size container at Sam’s Club… I figured that I would want to have enough to use several times)

2) Pour a generous amount of corn starch in a bowl (I used between 1/2 and 1 cup).

3) Add cold water and  stir. (You want to add enough water so that it stirs easily, but not so much that it’s super runny. If you tap your finger onto the Wonder Goop, it should feel solid but otherwise still move like a liquid)

4) Next stir in a few drops of food coloring…

The Wonder Goop is done and ready to play with!

“Smile for Mama!”

“Say Cheese!”

The best part about this is that there there are no chemicals! I didn’t have to worry about Noah putting his fingers in his mouth (something he’s been doing more of lately, since he’s teething… again). I kept our Wonder Goop in the plastic container for a days, before exchanging it for a new batch.

  1. Thanks for sharing this recipe – I know that Emma would love playing in something like this. Need to put cornstarch on my list for the store next time we go.
