So far I’ve been doing well with many of the things that I set out to get done and change this year. I have (mostly) been keeping up with my plan to DDC (decrapify, declutter and clean). I have been doing well in my quest to lose 15 pounds in 15 weeks (more on that later) and I am 4 out of 5 in my goal to do at least 1 craft a week.
This weeks craft was inspired by a Lion Brand Newsletter that came either late last week or early this week. Originally I had intended to craft a Valentines wreath this week, but when I saw the newsletter any plans for a wreath went out the door. The Love Birds were just too cute to pass up!
I taught myself to crochet last year and though I haven’t made much, most of what I have made is amigurumi. So with this in mind, I knew that I just had to make the Amigurumi Love Birds. They were very quick to make – even for a novice like me (2-3 hours each)and I’m sure I could have finished them even quicker had I used a larger sized hook (I used a US F/5 – 3.75mm).
Even though I knit and crochet extremely tightly, I still like to go down a few hook sizes when making toys, so that the stuffing doesn’t come though the holes. I also just embroidered the eyes and beak instead of using beaded eyes… at least this way I don’t have to worry about the kids (Abby) choking on an eye (I swear she has to put everything in her mouth and chew on it!).
The kids loved them and were trying to play with them before they were even finished. Noah was being too cute. I had finished the pink bird and started on the grey one. He kept asking if I was making a hat for the pink bird… maybe because I was using the same warm I used to make his hat this past fall??!! Once he saw it was a bird though everything changed… as soon as both birds were done he grabbed them and made them fly… and crash into each other! He is all boy!! 😉
We’ll see what next week brings, but I am thinking I may have to make a Valentines wreath (or maybe a spring wreath??!! Wishful thinking after all of this snow!). I’ve also been bitten by the vinyl bug and would like to get some decorative vinyl up on the walls. =)
Those are so cute! My daughter has crocheted some adorable animals. I need to show her these.
They’re absolutely darling! I once made a crochet angel for a Christmas decoration and I still really, really love it, but I couldn’t for the life of me ever, ever, ever duplicate it.
